Why brass idols and handcrafted wooden wall brackets are the go-to Deepavali 2026 decor for Chennai homes. Shop handcrafted pieces at AK Crafts.
Deepavali 2026 falls on November 8. As Chennai homes get ready for the festive season, we are seeing a clear pattern among our customers: fewer loud, mass-produced decorations, and more interest in a few meaningful, handcrafted pieces.
Two things people ask us for most are brass idols and wooden wall brackets. Here is why they work so well, and how to use them at home this Deepavali.
The Shift Towards Warm, Meaningful Decor
More customers are asking us for warm, earthy looks: terracotta, clay brown, muted olive green, instead of stark white and crowded shelves. Chennai’s bright natural light suits this style well.
Brass and wood both catch light beautifully and give a room a cosy festive glow without much effort. Instead of filling every shelf, many families now choose one or two striking pieces that stand out.
Why Brass Idols Are Back in Style
Brass has always been part of South Indian homes, especially during festivals. This year we see people choosing one well-made idol, such as a Ganesha or Lakshmi, as the focal point of the pooja room or living space, rather than filling a room with brass.
A handcrafted idol carries the skill of the artisan who made it, and that is something mass-produced decor cannot match.

Wooden Wall Brackets: Small Pieces, Big Impact
A wooden wall bracket does two jobs. It holds a diya, bell, idol or showpiece, and it adds a carved design element to a plain wall. Carved wood like this is inspired by the detailing seen in traditional South Indian temple woodwork.
Our hand-painted Elephant Wall Bracket is a good example. Placed near the entrance or in the pooja room, it adds warmth and character, especially when lit with diyas on Deepavali evening.

Styling Tips for a Chennai Home This Deepavali
Keep the rest simple. Let the idol and bracket be the highlight.
Pair one brass idol with one wooden bracket. Place the idol on a carved bracket near the entrance or pooja room. It needs no extra decoration around it.
Layer your lighting. Place a few diyas at different heights near the bracket or idol instead of one bright source.
Choose handcrafted over printed or plastic. It lasts longer, ages better, and supports traditional craftsmanship.
Caring for Your Brass Idol
Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth for regular upkeep. To bring back shine, use a paste of tamarind or lemon with a little salt, rinse well, and dry completely. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
Handcrafted Gifts for Deepavali
Looking for something meaningful for relatives and friends? A small brass idol or a carved wooden wall bracket makes a gift people actually keep, unlike packaged sweets that finish in a day.
