PRADOSHA VILAKKU

The Pradosha Vilakku is a traditional brass oil lamp used specifically for worship during Pradosham, a sacred time in the Hindu calendar dedicated to Lord Shiva. Pradosham occurs twice a month on the 13th day of each lunar fortnight and is a highly auspicious period for Shiva devotees, believed to be the time when Shiva dances the Ananda Tandava (dance of bliss) and is most forgiving toward his devotees. Lighting the Pradosha Vilakku during this time is thought to bring blessings, remove obstacles, and purify negative karma.
